GOVERNMENT COMMENDS MRCS ANNUAL YOUTH CAMP EVENT AS 2025 GATHERING CLOSES

The Malawi Red Cross 2025 Annual Youth Camp has been conducted where 100 Primary and Secondary school learners from Mangochi and Chikwawa districts have been drilled to face the future with confidence to believe they are the Voice of Change.

These learners were drawn from Secondary and Primary schools from the impact areas where Malawi Red Cross Society is implementing a four-year Community Resilience Program supported by Danish Red Cross and Icelandic Red Cross.

After a week-long camp, filled with various activities on Life skills, Social tips and Physical well - being, the youths returned to their respective communities with enthusiasm to lead in society influences.

Speaking during the closing ceremony representing the learners was a 13-year-old Richard Chawezi from Livuzi Community Day Secondary School in Chikwawa. He said in his speech “We have been energized, we have been mentored and we go back home with that passion of working hard to achieve a brighter future for our homes, communities and the nation, thank you Red Cross for opening this bright future”.

MRCS President Innocent Majiya said in his official closing remarks, “We believe in empowering the youth so that their future is significant. Youth camps are one way to impart them with all life skill". He said.

Director of Human Resource and Administration for Mangochi District Council Timothy Mwafongo who represented the District Commissioner commended Red Cross for such an initiative.

“Many youths in Malawi are engaging in various misconduct due to proper life guidance from such gatherings, I am told that during this camp these young ones have been empowered on various life issues, which as government we do appreciate, and thank you Malawi Red Cross and your donors on this project, as it is enhancing a future life preparation” Mwafongo said.

The first camp held ten years ago took place in Karonga and the lessons drawn from there, have led MRCS to conduct series of successful camps in Mangochi, Mwanza and Chikwawa.
