Ministry of Health through the Lilongwe District Health Office has commended the role Malawi Red Cross Society plays in mobilizing communities to donate blood, through its various projects implemented in several districts.
This came out during this year’s commemoration of World Blood Donor Day, where two events- Panel Discussion and the commemoration event where MRCS participated in both activities, as one key partner.
Speaking during the commemoration event on Saturday, Lilongwe District Nursing Officer Mercy Chimbalanga said, “in hospitals there is a huge shortage of blood, as cases requiring blood donation increase each passing day, and organizations such as Malawi Red Cross has continued to support all efforts on Blood donor recruitment by partnering MBTS, we say thank you”
MBTS Blood donor manager Malvis Chirwa concurred with Chimbalanga saying MBTS is not complete without MRCS. “For quite some years, Malawi Red Cross has helped us a lot in mobilizing communities to donate blood, and for this year where we require 140.000 units, we call for more support to achieve this target” said Chirwa.
During both the Commemorations and Panel Discussion, MRCS Head of Health Dan Banda pledged MRCS’ continued support to MBTS and the Ministry of Health to ensure the country is collecting enough Blood to meet the demand. At its Pavilion, MRCS shared its role in Blood Donor Recruitment.
MRCS Support was financed by Malawi Government through Subvention funding and the Government of Flanders through Belgium Red Cross.
